Our Origin
The Wellness Industry Was Selling Cosmetic Calm. We Refused.
Samadhi began with a frustration shared by its founders, its first teachers, and almost every participant who has since walked through its gates: the most powerful tools for human transformation — Vipassana, somatic awareness, insight practice — were being packaged into three-day retreats, app-based streaks, and weekend workshops that promised depth and delivered decoration.
We are not a spa. We are not a yoga retreat. We are not a digital detox with better food. Samadhi is a rigorous, lineage-grounded, neuroscience-informed residential program built for one purpose: to produce durable, measurable change in how a human being relates to their own mind. That is a large claim. We hold it precisely because we are unwilling to make small ones.
We opened in Galle in 2018 with twelve participants, three teachers, and a single conviction: that the gap between ancient contemplative wisdom and modern brain science is far smaller than the wellness industry wants you to believe — and far more interesting. Six years later, that conviction has only deepened.
Why Galle
The Land Is Not a Backdrop. It Is Part of the Practice.
Galle was not chosen for its aesthetics — though they are considerable. It was chosen because it sits at the intersection of three things that matter: a living Theravāda Buddhist community with unbroken lineage transmission, a biogeographic environment that supports the parasympathetic nervous system states required for deep practice, and a local culture that treats stillness not as luxury but as ordinary wisdom.
Our teachers are from here. Our food is from here. The walks between sessions move through highland forest that has been used for contemplative purposes for centuries. When you sit in silence at Samadhi, you are not isolated from the world — you are sitting inside a place that has held this kind of attention for a very long time. That continuity is not metaphorical. It is structural.
The Two Pillars
Ancient wisdom and modern science are not in tension at Samadhi. They are in conversation.
Binaural Neuro-Wellness
Our acoustic environment and neurofeedback protocols use binaural beat technology and EEG monitoring to support and verify the brainwave states that contemplative practice targets — theta, alpha, and the quieting of the default mode network.
Integration Architecture
The retreat does not end on day ten. A 12-week structured integration program, teacher-led weekly sessions, and a practice companion app ensure that what changes in Galle stays changed when you return to your life.
In Their Own Words
“I came as a committed skeptic. I left with EEG data showing a 34% reduction in resting amygdala activation and a sitting practice I have not missed a single day of in eight months. Samadhi does not ask you to believe anything. It asks you to observe. That I could do.”

“The teachers here carry something that cannot be faked. Not technique — presence. I have done three Vipassana courses elsewhere. Nothing prepared me for the quality of attention in that hall.”
L. Hartmann
Psychiatrist — Berlin
“I booked Samadhi because I was burning out and had run out of things to try. I would not describe what happened in ten days as relaxation. I would describe it as reconstruction. I came back to my life a different quality of person.”

Who This Is For
Not Everyone. The Right People.
Samadhi is built for two kinds of people, and they often arrive in the same body. The first is the local Sri Lankan professional — educated, overextended, spiritually curious but resistant to anything that feels like performance — who knows that something in their nervous system needs more than a long weekend to reset. The second is the international wellness traveler who has moved past the Instagram retreat and is ready for something that demands more and delivers more.
What unites them is this: they are done with cosmetic calm. They want the real mechanism. They are willing to sit with discomfort — literal, sustained, unmedicated — because they understand that discomfort, held with precision, is the instrument of change. If that describes you, you are exactly who we built this for.
